The Petatera

It has in its origins a deep religious tradition, when the people of Colima, hurt by the tremors, decide to place themselves under the protection of San Felipe de Jesús as patron saint, to whom from then on, religious and pagan festivals consecrate each year, among which are the bullfights.

Due to its architectural and building characteristics, it is a unique example in the country for the constructive wisdom with which it is carried out, based on regional materials and processes that have more than one hundred and fifty years of tradition in Colima, while incorporating even more traditional techniques. ancient. Currently the "La Petatera" bullring is located in the Municipality of Villa de Álvarez, on land destined for the annual festival and which has one hectare for the construction of the bullring on the road to Minatitlán, in front of the local pantheon. .

Traditionally known as "Festejos Charrotaurinos", these are held in the month of February, starting with a mass for the Patron Saint San Felipe de Jesus on the first weekend, and having 3 weeks of cultural, musical and traditional events; among these, 2 bullfights with renowned rejoneadores and matadors as guests.

Suchitlan

Brotherhood of Suchitlan, is a town located 20 minutes north of the municipal seat of Comala and is identified by its indigenous ancestry, which gives it cultural and social characteristics that make it unique in the state. It has a population of approximately 7,000 people (INEGI; 2000), who mostly carry out economic activities in the fields of agriculture, livestock, and artisanal and tourist services.

Nogueras

Famous for the "Nogueras" Cultural Center; It is a space that preserves the legacy of the Colima painter Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo, within the museum created expressly, as well as what were the facilities of an old sugar mill. The peculiarity of these two small communities lies in the fact that both (the only two of the 16 localities that make up the municipality) are located in the Cerro Grande, whose landscapes are unique, as well as its flora and fauna.
